Alleyne Emil Hug
A South African born artist who has long held a passion for all things creative.

Alleyne has busied himself with painting, drawing, photography, writing and music since he was a young boy.

All of these different creative hobbies serve to influence his creative direction.

01
Be Aware
What is awareness and where does it stem from? Towards what is awareness directed? Awareness, for all its dressings, is an exercise in discretion and discernment. It is the process of immersing oneself in the turpentine of focus and stripping that which is superfluous and contrived.

To this end, when delving into awareness, one may be prompted to discover that much of one’s perceived healing is naught but prideful flesh - an arrogant mass of scar tissue which must be excised.

With honesty and humility, one may begin to uncover the true shape of one’s wounds.

02
Understand
To descend through the depths of Awareness is to undertake the journey towards understanding.

Understanding, in the absence of judgment, the absence of moral valence, means shaping one’s wounds into a comfortable and tangible resting place.

It is from this position, as one at peace with that which has caused one harm, that one may begin transcend the visceral aspect of our trauma.

It is from this position, as bedfellows with one’s demons, that one may begin to uncover their true nature and to accept their presence, rather than strain oneself in their rejection.

03
Accept
Acceptance, as derived from understanding, is the process of integration and reanimation - reanimating that part of oneself which had been lost to the wound.

The shape of acceptance, however, is rarely one which engenders aesthetic or moral praise. Often, one must suspend these two evaluations; those of aesthetic and moral platitudes, to let that which has been reanimated exist beyond the scope of judgment or condemnation.

It is in this space of acceptance that we may come to regard that which we previously scorned as that which makes us unique, inspirational and beautiful.

04
Forgive
Moving beyond the threshold of acceptance and attempting to make oneself closer to whole, one must inevitably confront forgiveness.

Forgiveness, contrary to popular belief, is a process rooted deeply in conflict: one must reconcile one’s own ideals and notions about oneself with the reality uncovered in awareness, understanding and acceptance.

To assimilate that which has been severed, to glorify that which has been ostracized, to elevate that which has been condemned - wordlessly, thoughtlessly - is the true nature of forgiveness.

That which begs for assimilation.
